A Rosy Thank You

Finally, this week has come to an end. For a short work week it sure didn't feel like it. I'm glad this week is behind me! An embossing friend of mine sent me this gorgeous rose template by American Traditional. Along with the template she sent some samples of them done up in paste. Seeing I couldn't sleep last night I decided to give paste another try, I tried it once and failed miserably but working off some tips she gave me I decided to try again and this is the result. I started out by first cutting the rectangle out using a Spellbinder's die and my Wizard. I found this Anna Griffin rose paper that perfectly matched the design of the rose and I wanted to match the colors. Using Dreamweavers white paste I mixed up a batch for the leaves using burnt umber and fern Twinkling H2O's and Poppy red and Hot Cinnamon for the actual rose. Once it was pasted I carefully removed template and sprinkled some sparkling embossing powder on it. Then assembled the card.

A Male Get Well Gift

Everyone knows how hard it is to come up with ideas for guys and especially a get well card or gift for that special guy. Well, I finally get to share with you a little get well gift I put together for a good embossing buddies hubby who is having some back surgery done this week. When I first saw this tool belt posted on Mel's blog I knew it would be perfect for this guy since he is quite talented and loves making wood creations. His work is pure artistry and I sure hope he likes this. Since, it was for an embossing buddy I used a Lasting Impressions template for the tools and created the little "Get Well" manual with their software. I only wish I had some 1/4" wire instead of 1/2" to bind it since binding is a little large for the manual. I didn't use any fancy tools to create the tool belt other then my sewing machine. I used my paper cutter to bend and score where needed. I did do a faux leather finish (see tip below) I filled the belt with some feel good treats from a local nut company and a crossword book to keep him busy while healing.

I have made faux leather before without incident but when I picked up this paper it tore. I recommend you use a soft paper like linen. I used a specialty paper that had a wood content to it and it turned out to be too brittle which made working with it rough.

The uses for this tool belt are endless and it is a pretty decent size as you can see I put a lb. of nuts in it without trouble.

Simple Bird Card

I created this simple bird card for a chance to win some yummy blog candy that seedings mum is offering. You can't really go wrong with these colors and it was a super quickie to make. I paper pieced the birds using matching paper adding pop dots to the two outer ones to add a bit of depth.

Halloween Mini Album

Guess you have all been wondering what I have been up too. I spent Memorial Day making this little album. I know why Halloween this time of year? I have had this little idea in my head for some time and had to get it to paper before it never got done. I also wanted to enter the fantastic mini album contest that Peata is holding. I decided to only post a few pictures of the album until after the contest is over. Papers used were mostly Lasting Impressions and there is lots of dry embossing in album all templates are from Lasting Impressions. To bind it I used my Bind It All with 1" wires.

The little album is made using 5 coasters and has 3 section. Witches Spells included are omens and superstitions, Bubbly Brews is for ghoulishly good beverages and Monster Mash are for fun games you would play on Halloween.

Red White & Blue Trifle

If you ever wanted rave reviews this recipe is for you. I always end up doubling it although a single recipe allows for a good 12 heaping servings. Super easy to make and I warn you it usually disappears within minutes of putting it out.

Recipe is for a single 12 servings. You can double recipe without any modifications.

1 can Sweetened Condensed Milk (14 oz)
1 1/2 cup water
1 pkg. vanilla instant pudding
2 cups (1 pint) of heavy whipping cream, whipped
1 Nickles Custard Angel Food Cake torn into small pieces (if not avail can use plain angel food)
3 1/2 cups strawberries (other fruits can be used) quanity isn't critical
2 pints blueberries ( added to make it RWB)
1/4 cup Simply Fruit topping

In large bowl combine milk and water, mix well. Add pudding mix; beat until blended.
Chill for 5 minutes. Fold in whipped whipping cream. In large bowl place layer of filling followed by cake. Spread some simply fruit (doesn't have to cover all pieces.. random is good) top with fruit of choice and continue layering until done. Chill until ready to serve.

Update- Since I have had a couple email me asking about Simply Fruit it is made by Smucker's and can be found near jellies in your store. Just adds a little more flavor when applied sporadically onto the cake.

Mother's Day Photo Box

I thought this would be a fun gift for a Mother that has years of pictures to organize. At least on paper it sounded good, that was until I had to make it. I am not super thrilled with it but I'm sure it will be used. The paper I used is from Making Memories Meg Paisley and their coordinating Argyle paper. For the upper I used LI paper embossed with Cuttlebug paisley folder. The heart and flower on the front are LI dies . What doesn't show in the scan is the white behind heart and flower is embossed paper by LI. I created inserts for each of her children and one for her grandchildren in matching papers and used my tab punch for the labels.

Hooray it is done, funny how such a simple thing can turn into a project.

Happy Hour Graduation Card

I stole my inspiration for this card from the Bella graduation card Kathy posted. Not having any Bella stamps (Not a single one!) I used Max from SparkleNSprinkle. For the panel I used Lasting Impressions paper and Cuttlebug Congratulations folder. I added Ranger glossy accents to pimento and drink to finish it off. I used computer generated wording and cut it out wil an oval punch. It was all mounted onto some tree green CS I had.

Today, I am off to a Inlaws picnic that I dread going to ever year. It seems like such a waste of a good stamping day. I make a great truffle and had not planned on making it this year due to the cost but they offered to pay me to make it so I guess I just have to get in the kitchen and get it made! I will be sure to take a picture and post recipe later for anyone having an extra $30.00 burning a whole in their pocket. The cost of the ingredients.

I also finished up my mothers Mother's Day project and gave it to her yesterday but not before I took some pictures so I will post those too. It didn't come out as I had planned but she loved it never the less.

Memorial Day Card

What a day and to think it's only Wednesday! I came home today to a summons for jury duty now to get them to extend it until the work season let's up at work because my boss doesn't believe in one having to do their civic duty!

I thought I would share a card I made for Memorial Day today. This is another card I made during my sleepless weekend:) This cute sailor is from Sparkle N Sprinkle . I have admired this stamp for some time and only recently received it. I think it is perfect for this or any other patriotic holiday. I also got to use up some of my eyelets that have been lying around for a long time on this card. I colored the sailor using Copic markers and used Lasting Impressions paper on card with the exception of the white CS. To create the sentiment I used a font and printed it in black ink, instantly after removing from printer I embossed it with clear powder and heat set it.

This card along with complete instructions will be appearing in their gallery shortly.

Oriental Beauty

For todays share I created this Oriental beauty. It was created using a Sparkle N Sprinkle image. The card will be appearing in their gallery shortly with complete instructions. The Japanese lady was colored in with Copic markers in corals and light peach to match the beautiful Hanko paper.

Martha Stewart Sticker Fun

I never thought I would make a sticker card let alone use stickers but I won these and just had to play with them. They are from the Martha Stewart "Fiesta" collection. The package came with two sheets one in teal and one sheet in this color. I decided it would make for a cheery "QUICK" get well card. I layered the flowers with some pop dots to give it a 3D look and I am somewhat surprised that you can not even tell it was created with stickers. I embossed the lower portion of card with Cuttlebug flower folder in matching color. I then added an embossed border around upper portion of card, stamped my wishes using SU word to finish it off with Colorbox rouge chalk ink.

It isn't too ugly, right?

All Girl Birthday Card

I too like Kathy, could not sleep in fact, we spent a few minutes on AIM this morning chatting. Birds of a feather! I almost have a whole week of cards to share due to my lack of sleep! This card I created for my glitzy 15 year old cousin who loves orange and pink. I used the sparkling gel pens Kathy sent me for Mother's Day to color it in. I had a scrap panel of paper left from my Mother's Day project so I punched out 3 3/4" holes and inserted some big yellow Making Memory buttons. To the background I embossed Happy Birthday using my Cuttlebug Birthday folder I then added some matching ribbon to finish it off.

No Color Challenge

I created this card for Allison's weekly challenge. Although, I made it into a guy birthday card it would make an excellent Father's Day card too. The antique auto stamp is great left uncolored especially with the colorful K&Company paper behind it. I believe the paper was a freebie in a Take Ten issue some time back. I stamped the auto using black ink, mounted it to turquoise then brown stock, applied some pop dots and completed the card using a matching strip of brown that I inserted turquoise eyelets into for added bling. Very quick guy card to make. The auto stamp is from Sparkle N Sprinkle.

A Pink Paisley Daisy card

I hope everyone had a wonderful week as you can see from the lack of my post, mine was extremely stressful and my creativity is just coming back to me. I still have yet to finish my moms Mother's Day gift. I have picked it up every day this week and then set it back! It's a good thing a quality of any mother is patience because mine might need it. She is lucky if I get it done by her birthday in September at the rate I'm going. I really think my hangup is with the colors I chose to use on it they are the same colors I used to create this card.

I picked this paisley paper up at Michaels on sale a few weeks ago by Making Memories line. I paired it with some Lasting Impressions blush and mounted it to cashew stock which picks up on the lightest color of the paisley. The ribbon is also from LI. I stamped wording using both coral and rouge Colorbox Chalk inks. I sewed the edging around pink using white thread and as you can see bobbin was messed up but it ADDS a nice look so I left it! The daisies are a Boss Cut die that I pleated in center of petals to give more of a 3D look.

Niffty Ribbon Storage Idea

Yesterday I was asking Kathy how she stored her ribbon and she suggested an idea I have seen before which was to wrap the ribbon around clothes pins and tossing them in a large fish bowl. I knew I had the perfect bowl so off I went in search of my clothes pins when I came across these fasteners I had left over from the days my husband and I had a business. A light bulb went off in my head that these would be PERFECT and the ribbon would stay put. This may not look as pretty as ribbon wound around clothes pins but they take up less bulk and can even be sorted by color in mason jars easily for a impressive display. I couldn't remember the source of mine so I searched online this morning and came up with this site for those interested. They had the best prices. The self adhesive strip makes it nice because they do not slip as you are winding the ribbon on to them

Diane's Address Book

Good evening tonight I thought I would share the address book I created for Diane, the final blog candy winner. She is a SU rep and her email said she loved so saffron,white and also black. So for her book I decided to use all 3 colors and I am quite pleased at how well all the colors go together. Hopefully, she thinks so too:) I did not have SU card stock so used a color that I think is very close to SU so saffron.

I still have not finished Mom's Mother's Day gift to share but I do have a niffy ribbon storage idea that I came up with yesterday that I will post shortly.

I am one Loved Mom!

I want to wish all my readers a wonderful Mother's Day it is my hope each and every one of you are treated as special as me. My daughter is the most sweetest, loving, caring daughter in the world and so is my SIL! I am the luckiest mom on the planet to have been given such a wonderful daughter and SIL. She certainly knows how to pamper her mom. Check out all I received in the mail from her and my SIL. My lens on my camera could not even capture it all I had to take pictures in sections! She recently attended the Lasting Impressions warehouse sale and I think she may have bought them out judging from the box of goodies I got. Inside this huge 27 lb box was paper, ribbon, thread, rub ons, templates, envelope templates of all sizes, 6x6 paper stacks galore,template organizers, buttons and more buttons, envelopes, scrapbook pad with templates, CANDY, and the favorite of course was the picture frame she created for me by paper piecing LI paper using a new MFT stamp set. The detail on this is incredible! She did an awesome job on it I don't think I would have the patience to make such a beautiful piece. I certainly will cherish it for years to come. One last thing she sent me a Mother's day card and on outside it says "gratitude" I am the one that should be sending HER that card because I am so grateful to have her as my daughter. Motherhood was easy with her in the house she was the perfect child in every sense of the word. Thank you Kathy for being my daughter! The only thing missing this morning is my burnt toast and of course, her being here.

Pretty Pink Address Book

Here is another address book I created for Joan now that she recieved it I can share it. I love making these little books and seem to be getting more and more creative. Dry Embossed Challenge Card

Today's share is a card I made for a dry emboss challenge. I picked this pretty paisley paper up at Michael's over the weekend for cheap! Paper is called Meg Paisley by Making Memories and I paired it with some Lasting Impressions "Seaside" paper. I embossed the paisley print using a Cuttlebug paisley folder. Buttons are from Lasting Impressions and ribbon, little fish saying are Dollar store finds. The shell which is a Spellbinder die was embosed on a textured suede type paintchip that I swiped from Home Depot!

Address Book & Card

I thought I would share with you this evening the address book I made for Little Kelly and included with her other goodies since she has now received it. When I asked her for her color choice she said she had a country, apple themed kitchen. I have always made my books using flowers as page dividers but decided to attempt to customize it a bit more for her. To create it I used the telephone template from Lasting Impressions and an apple template. I used apples for the page dividers and apple on the front of telephone I added Ranger glossy accents. This was used to both protect the rub ons from coming off thus adding durability and to make them look yummy!

I also sent her a bright and sunny sunflower card that I designed some time ago but worth a share. I love sunflowers and this is one of my favorite stamp set used. It is a TAC stamp set that has since been discontinued. I stamped the flowers on DCWV yellow stock using Colorbox tangerine, warm red, warm green and country brown chalk inks. I mounted a panel to the front stamping a Hero Arts phrase and adding a couple of metallic brads.

Just Playing with Circle Punches

My favorite program is coming on now so this will be a quick post! I can't miss "House" it is one of the few TV programs I watch. As you can see, I am still playing with the paper I picked up Saturday, I just love the pattern colors and the Colorbox rouge chalk ink just goes perfect with it as does the Lasting Impressions "Blush paper. I used both my old Wizard circle dies and my scallop Giga punch to create some depth to one of my favorite SU flower stamps. It may be hard for you to see in the photo but I first embossed the scalloped circle using my Cuttlebug flower folder before layering it. This really was a 10 minute card even though directions sound like it was complicated LOL. I hand stitched bottom portion of card using a marker then used 3D black paint for the dots. "Just for You" which is a dollar stamp from Michael's was stamped in black then embossed.

Dry Embossed Friendship card

Happy Sunday! I was busy making the address books for my blog winners today and had my templates out so I created this quick card. Lilkel and Joan your parcels will be mailed tomorrow. Diane I need a couple more days on yours. I embossed the front of this card using a Fiskar striped template and to give it tiny check look I flipped it in my Wizard and went in the other direction. I picked up the designer paper yesterday at my scrapbook store it's by Reminisce "Sadie's Sweater". I mounted the enbossed LI flower template on to giga scallop circle using pop dots. Flower was enbossed in white linen and I added a Big button to match the background stock. I love this color combo and I am not usually a pink person.

Brothers Birthday Card

I finally made a card for my GOOFY brother! This is for my OLDER brother who is one heck of a good guy. My brother is a sweety but wouldn't want anyone to know. Years back he bought a new house and left behind were huge sheets of card stock (30" x 60") of course he called his lil sis and told me to come and get it ALL! His house is located not far from American Greetings so, my guess is prior tenant must have worked for them. I was in heaven and still have quite a bit of it left.

So, for my sweet goofy brother I came up with this colorful card stamp is by Whipper Snapper. I used black ink and embossing it before coloring with Copic Markers. I was having some truple trying to blend it. My clear blender must be dead already:(. Card is 5 1/4 x 5 1/4 square and I used some patterned paper that I have had for years, not use of origin but it at one time appears it was in a 6x6 pad of sorts. Wording is clipart.

Winner (S) and Brothers Birthday Card - HUSH!

Ok, before I announce the winner I thought I would share a card I made. I have been under the weather all week it has really zapped my creativity. My brothers birthday is Sunday and I know I need to make him a card but I couldn't resist playing with some new stamps. We all know new stamps are a great way to get the juices flowing.... Well not in this case if your my brother! I hardly think he would appreciate this card. I better snap out of this spell soon for his sake.I'm not sure I am pleased enough to give this card to anyone. I kept adding and adding until I thought it was jazzed up enough and I still think it lacks something. All stamps are from CHF. I stamped the background and image in Colorbox rose then embossed bottom of image using LI template. I covered the clip in matching background paper. Added some rivets to notebook paper then brown ribbon to complete.

You might have noticed the title of this post. I decided I could not have JUST ONE winner since so many bloggers were kind enough to add me to their blog rolls. Well, I haven't made my mom's gift yet, but it will probably be something handmade, too. Last year I made her a Mother's Day album with pictures of her mom and her, me and her and my son and her -- not sure how to top that one *wink* I will think of something great though, because she is ABSOLUTELY WORTH IT! My mom is definitely one of my best friends (next to DH of course), and I love her dearly. She sacrificed a lot as a single parent for a number of years.

As for my blog roll, girl, you have been there for a while now!! :D Been in my google reader since I first found you and Kathy! {hugs} Kel

Reading over everyone else's entries is very touching. Reading the notes by those whose mothers are gone makes me incredibly more grateful mine is still a vital part of my life. My mother is 81 and is an avid card-maker. We sit side-by-side by the hour and make cards. She is a delight...such a sweetie. One of my gifts to her is helping her with an album of her highschool friends that she still meets with. Can you believe that!
